Alison McKenna: Village Of Resistance, 2025
Artist Alison McKenna has made a beautiful edition of ten small paintings based on a signature work. Originally a large format painting on wood, The Village of Resistance (2023) captures a twilight journey to a Greek mountain village, the air heady with the scent of herbs, wild thyme, rosemary, pine … a place of resistance to occupation.
While these signature works are defined by their colour, they also incorporate organic line and reductive gesture. A chasm at dusk become oppositional colour passages split by lowering light. The mountain village is represented by an entirely non-figurative, capping passage of red.
In this series, Alison has reduced the scale, adjusted the colours to suit the format, and produced a series of ten beautiful, unique works.
